Greenday, the poster children of pop-core, kings of pop punk. Truth be told every pop punk band
owes more than they own to Billie Joe Armstong and pals Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool. Before they were
American Idiots they were indie superstars. With fast power chord punk infused guitar, a rapid 180
count drum beat that many try to duplicate and failed, and with catchy bass lines, Green Day rose
through the pop punk ranks quickly, having two albums under their belt- 1990's "1,039 Smoothed Out
Slappy Hours," (a combination of the two EP's "39 Smooth," 1989 and "1,000 Hours," 1990) and 1992
"Kerplunk," on the indie label LOOKOUT! Records. All this transpired before they hit the ripe age of
18. With "Kerplunk" sales reaching more than 30,000 copies and selling-out shows in their own back
yard of the southern California punk circuit, it didn't take long for Green Day to catch on. Who
couldn't relate to Billie Joe's dark sarcastic lyrics based on anything between girls, alienation, and
growing up where no one gets you?

1994 held a lot for Green Day, a new record deal with Reprise, their major label debut "Dookie," sold
over 10 million by the years end. Success came in the form of four major singles, Billie Joe
Armstrong's mug pasted all over MTV and Magazine covers, a sold out club Tour, Lollapalooza, and
Woodstock. However everything that comes up must come down.
