In 1996 the pop-era began for Metallica, heralding the end for one of the world's most adored bands. With the
release of "Load," and the follow up "Reload," fans noticed the difference and pulled back quickly, causing
sales to drop.
When one sees dollar signs before music notes there is an issue. Nyght Scene does not endorse illegal
downloading, but the way Lars Ulrich came off on the downloading scandal of 2000 couldn't be less metal. The
whining still echoes off the musical hall of Valhalla, and causes metal heads of the heartiest stock to cringe in
disgust. Cartoon and tv spoofs were hosted mocking Metallica as chumps, and who could blame them?
Metallica would b no where without the tape trading circuit of the 80's, but fought whole heartedly against the
circuit once they got a taste of the million dollar pie. The full Metallica catalogue is now available to download
on Itunes.com.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the hugely disappointing album "St. Anger." "St. Anger," has
been deemed Metallica's worst and un-Metallica album, for behind the shells of the members of said band lies
nothing more than greedy men selling their souls for a few more years in the sun.
Failures:
Suing Victoria's Secret for selling lip-liner baring the name "Metallica" (1999) Suing Uerlain for making a "Metallica" perfume line (2000) Napster Battle (2000) Loss of Jason Newstead (2001) St. Anger (2003) Some Kind of Monster (2004) James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich contributing voice to the Disney cartoon "Dave the Barbarian" (2004) The possibility of a Metallica video game (thankfully cancelled) (2005)
