It's always a bad sign when anyone takes themselves too seriously, especially when that person is Billie Joe
Armstrong. I think we all knew it was all down hill when Green Day released, 2001's "International Superhits," a
collection of their greatest hits or what have you. However, I think we all knew that the honeymoon was over with
2000's "Warning," which received very little response from both fans and critics. The shtick got old, you can only
hold up the Holden Caulfield thing for so long.
Just when you think Green Day had fallen into a state of comatose, with Mike Dirnt's reoccurring back aliment,
Tre Cool climbing shit and attempting to break something, and with Billie Joe Armstrong falling out of the media
altogether, they hit us with "American Idiot," an album that Armstrong has been quoted as saying "We've
wanted to make for a while, now." Well what band wouldn't want to make an extremely radio friendly album with
punk rock lyrics and even a trendy music video about a young kid going off to Iraq...Which is really funny
because I swear to God that I don't believe that Billie Joe Armstrong said that song was about his father dying.
Armstrong's dad died when he was 10. Billie just forgot one little thing. Punk rock lyrics should be sung by a punk
rock band not Green Day.
"American Idiot," is Green Day's biggest critical success with Grammy's, VMA's, and what ever other pointless
award that has been thrown their way. Grammy's Pointless? Of course! Grammy's are stupid awards that are
being given away by antique rich white guys. Yea, those guys know everything about music. They gave the first
Hard Rock Grammy to Jethro Tull instead of Metallica, so I'd say they're pretty pointless. Still don't believe me
that Green Day has fallen? Green Day is doing a Charity album with U2, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!
