The Black Dahlia (cont.)

The movie takes on a dark cast, the
colors muted as not to distract the
mind too much and to set a basic
mood for the film, which can be
called nothing more than dower. The
Black Dahlia takes you through the
tale of perversion, anger, confusion,
deception, and obsession all from the
point of view boxer turned detective
Dwight "Bucky" Bleichert (Josh
Harnet). Bucky and his partner Lee
Blanchard (Aaron Eckhard) are set
onto the Dahlia case after stalking a
known child-molester to remote
brothel, and then suffering a
shoot-out between the local gang and
themselves, unaware that the body of
Elizabeth Short (Mia Kirshner) lay in
a field behind the building. Bucky
begins to notice a change in his friend
and partner that becomes all too
apparent when the body is found and
the case is bestowed upon the
partnership known as "Mr. Fire and
Mr. Ice."

As Blanchard becomes obsessed, his
every waking moment consumed by
his need to solve the case, the love
triangle between Mr. Fire, Kay Lake (
Scarlett Johansson), and Mr. Ice
boils to a head, adding another
element to the already mounting pile
of emotional turmoil Bucky is forced
to endure.

All though slow and wordy, the Black
Dahlia caters to all the perversion the
human mind might crave, from sex
to murder, nothing in between is skipped.
The intricate plot unfolds over nearly 3
hours of shady footage, making one want
to hurry the process though the plot
reaches beyond the average murder,
pornography, femme fatales, corrupt
cops, and criminals can't keep a person
occupied at all times.

If you have read the novel, prepare
yourself for a nearly completely different
movie. The Black Dahlia does not adhere
to the written word.

       GingerSnaps (2000)
Starring:  Katharine Isabelle and
              Emily Perkins
Directed by: John Fawcett

Ginger snaps in the first installment of a
three part series. Werewolves, sex, drug
abuse and some twisted, blood drinking
romances, all packed neatly into an hour
and a half long movie.
I'm a werewolf enthusiast, always
searching for any thing that has
werewolves in it in the vampire dominated
world. What's so cool about it anyways?
So while scouring the web one night I
came across this movie and decided to
rent it. This was two years ago, maybe
three, but I still remember it.
Two late-teen sisters rail against
society, talking about how screwed up
it all is.  They both pride them self's in
never getting the 'curse' or a period,
even though there about 17, until one
night Ginger, the older sister, gets hers
while out walking. Well wouldn't you
know? It's a full moon and threes a
werewolf out, who smells the blood
and attacks the girl.

For the next month the younger Sister
notices her sister acting odd and
begins to look up on her condition.
What she discovers is Lycanthropy, or
the Werewolf disease. So begins the
quest to cure her sister.  I wont spoil
the ending but what I will say is that's
when it gets good. Give it a rent and
grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy.
