With any band there is a
general conception, a wide
spread stereotype, a mass
opinion that is more often
wrong that right. Not matter
the case, if you’re in a band,
your labeled as a whole as
well as personally. Armor for
Sleep has emo, Avenged Sevenfold is
trashy to a tee, My Chemical
Romance is theatrical, and From First
to Last is… Things such as cocky,
dirty, arrogant, unschooled, young,
and flash have been thrown around
by foes and fans alike, but I assure
you that Derek Bloom, drummer of
From First to Last, embodies none of
those qualities.

Having been running rather late, due
to automotive mishaps that could rival
Katrina in its disastrous events, we
arrived to the interview expecting
thewhole band, but only getting Derek.
To where many would be a little put
off by the loss of the other members, I
wasn’t upset in the least. You see,
Derek had this calming aura around
him that I willingly drank in. With
smiles and introductions we began,
and soon I cam to realize that there
stood no jaded kid but a musician with
a nice smile and great musical tastes,
    proving that a good interview
does not have to include the
      lead singer and guitarist, even
        if the drummer despises being
         a drummer.

“I never really wanted to play
drums. I never really liked playing
drums. I just kinda got stuck playing
them because no one else wanted to. I
always wanted to play guitar, I’ve been
playing guitar since I was ten, and
Iremember when I was in high school
I was like ‘Fuck! I’ll never find a
drummer to play in a band with!’So a
friend of mine had parents that owned
a junkyard, and his parents used to find
drum sets in the trash, and so they
gave me a bunch of pieces. I
remember, I had two kick drums and a
floor tom made out of a Gatorade
