This Month Nyght Scene got a chance to sit down with Buddy Nielson Vocalist of New Jersey Pop Punk
band Senses Fail. Ironically there was no Coffee or Cigarettes floating freely, but Buddy did happen to have
his chewing Tobacco handy, thought we did get a chance to chat about one of Buddy’s favorite subjects,
organized religion and his love for it, or lack their of.

NS: You have made your opinion clear that you are not a fan of organized religion, so what is your opinion of
bands like Underoath and Norma Jean?
BN: If they want to force that [Christianity] they can do whatever they want. I just think that there needs to
be more bands saying the opposite, not just because but just to give another idea that you can still be spiritual,
that you can still believe in things and believe in God, but you don’t have to subscribe to a certain way of life.
You don’t have to be against same sex marriage. A lot of it is just stupid to me, a lot of it just doesn’t make
sense to me, and it shouldn’t be there, but it’s written here [opens hands like a book] and it just doesn’t make
any sense to me. And I don’t mean all Christians, I mean like Southern Baptist, and Evangelist those are the
ones that I have the biggest problem with. And the thing with the Catholic Church, Protestant Church and the
Methodist Church is there is this history to it, and you can understand why it’s that way, it’s because of
ignorance, the history is because of ignorance. The foundation of the church would actually break if they
accepted certain beliefs, especially the Catholic church.
