Maybe Nielson sudden reserved persona has something to do with his recent grips
with his own anxiety problems. A few years ago Nielson couldn’t even stand to be in a
room full of people that were even his closest friends. Which may or may not have led
to rumors that Nielson is an asshole, “Yea I get that a lot, But whatever you know.
Sometimes I say outrageous things just to piss people off.” Nielson laughs. It wasn’t
so funny a few years ago when Nielson could barley function on tour putting his own
fate in question not to mention the fate of his band Senses Fail. For the next few
months Nielson was on an emotional rollercoaster that was triggered by the death of
his grandmother.
“Everything just made me feel closed in.” Nielson say, “I would just get completely
stressed around crowds, it wasn’t a good time.” Nielson says. Not a good time at all,
but it didn’t really sink in until Neilson was taking a trip to New Orleans with his
girlfriend and he couldn’t board the plane. “At first I just thought it was something that
would pass.” Nielson says. “I’d do the regular thing and drink a lot, but it wasn’t
working.”  Shortly after, the New Orleans incident, Nielson started seeing a
psychiatrist, and began taking anti depressants.  Which he ceased once Senses started
recording Still Searching, Which was scary at first considering Nielson would still
have panic attacks from time to time, then have to go to Europe in the winter, “
Europe can be a scary place in the winter time,” Nielson adds. You can often find
Nielson outside the Senses Fails tour bus before a show doing his Tai-Chi “It really
relaxes me, it keeps me centered.” Nielson says.  “Everyone’s life is a work in
progress,” Nielson says. “You always think that you have it all figured out and then
some shit falls into your lap and you have overcome and evolve. I’m just not that naïve
anymore to think I have it all figured out.” Nielson adds.-[Justin Lee Amidon]
