NS: Especially when President Bush
says that he will Veto bills that are yet
to be written.
TG: Well Bush is not a smart man.
NS: You have said that you aren’t a
person who has any answers, but do you
feel that you are asking the right
questions?
TG: I don’t know what the wrong
questions would be to ask. I think asking
questions is an important thing. I think that’
s the most important thing that I’ve ever
gotten from Punk Rock is learning to
question everything. Never take anything at
face value. Always understand things for
yourself; never take anyone else’s word
for it.
NS: Do you think that is something that
is missing from popular punk rock right
now?
TG: Absolutely.
NS: AP [Alternative Press] Magazine
compared New Wave to The
Replacements’ Tim, and Jimmy Eat
World’s Bleed American, do you see any
similarities between New Wave and those
records?
TG: I can see The Replacements
comparison for sure I’m a big fan of The
Replacements, I do not see the Jimmy Eat
World comparison at all! At all! Not even in
the least bit. I read that review-I didn’t think
it was that great of a review. It makes me
question stuff when a reviewer doesn’t even
get the song titles right. It’s like well how
much were you really fucking paying
attention there. It’s just bullshit; I don’t
think that there is even one magazine that I
trust for reviews anymore. I usually think
that the record is the opposite of what the
review tells me. What’s weird too is what a
lot of magazines will do is a reviewer will
review it and then give it a certain score or
whatever the grading system is and then a
lot of times the editor will go in and knock it
down because they don’t want that record
to get that good of a review. It’s just total
bullshit politics.
NS: So obviously that frustrates you?
TG: Yeah, it’s like what fucking record
were you listening to? It frustrates me more
as a reader than a musician. It would
frustrate me the same if I was reading a
review about a band that I liked and they
were that off in a comparison. It’s just like
how the hell did you get that
comparison? I think that review even
compared our record to Green Day, and
we don’t sound anything like Green Day.
NS: So what do you think the new
record sounds like?
TG: An Against Me! Record. -[Justin
Lee Amidon]
