beginning this year at Guavaween.
The local “hardcore” thing has died out for the most part. Kids are becoming for acceptable to
new things and to bands that have a more melodic sound. Bands like DC North and Tears in the
Sahara didn’t used to have a place, they were like a third wheel. You have a band like Until Eternity,
a Norma Jean-esque band finish their set, and then a band like DC North goes on, and half the kids
would put listen to three lines of the opening song and they’d be like, “screw this,” and they’d
leave; but now when they pay the $5, $10 they stay the whole night, they give the 3rd wheel
another turn. The competitiveness has gone away bands used to look down on one another because
they didn’t fit into their scene, or their style. Now bands are asking other bands to come play the
show and have fun it’s more about the music now and not about this high school click thing. It’s
good; it’s nice, it’s right where it has to be for Tampa. This is the animal that we call the Tampa
music scene, and we need to feed it for all it’s worth.
