Do you still have it?
“I sold it, actually. Yea I did, I sold it. But after
that I had a guitar from a company called Golden
and after that, I just started playing bass right
away. So I really only had 2 guitars.”
What did you have for your first bass?
“Well, first, first, first bass was when I started
playing a band with Wade before Alexiosonfire
started. I used his bass and it was this crazy-like
electric purple, PV. Really it was electric purple
PV. And Wade, he could play guitar and sing so I
used his bass guitar and then after a while I
started playing a jazz bass after Aleixisonfire
started. A Sunburst, yea it was a Thunder jazz.
Like if you would have seen me with that electric
purple, it was like a wash too. On the outer rim it
was dark, dark electric purple then it went to light,
light, light, almost white it was unbelievable and
the shape of it and everything was like ‘What?!
What was I doing?!’.”
You probably would have started a trend, and
everybody would have been rocked electric
purple basses.
“Well, probably, Well, yea a little bit, I guess so, I
don’t know, maybe, or not. Maybe in North
America, it would have been a big craze for like 2
months and then just fade away. But worldwide,
people would have just looked a picture of me and
been like “what is that guy doing?!”
It would have been big in like, Jersey and L.
A., all flamboyant and what not.
“Yeah, yeah!”
They would have had spotlights just for that.
“Just for the bass! Yea it was a joke, then again it
wasn’t a joke because I didn’t own a bass guitar,
but I was like okay ‘I’ll play in the band, but I
need a bass guitar. This is my only option.’ It was
really like, okay ‘We’ll do the band, we’ll play the
songs, but this is what you have to play.’ and I
was like “Ok, whatever.”
How would you describe your album to someone
you met on the street?
”To someone that’s never heard us? … Aw, that’s a
good question. I don’t wanna say anything stupid
here! … I’d say it sounds like a car racing an airplane,
but, the car wins the race! And Alexisonfire is that
car, even though the airplane obviously is a lot faster
then a car. The airplane isn’t even on the runway,
either! It’s flying past! Alexisonfire races that plane
and we win that race because we have that much
heart! It doesn’t matter how fast you are, you’ve gotta
have that heart and we just have a lot of heart and
passion in the music. Which will us to that car which
totally takes over that plane.”
What’s one band that you want the readers to
check out?”Attack in Black. Yeah, they’re pretty
much form our hometown. They’re unbelievable! I
think that they’re Canada’s best band. I think they are
the best band in Canada and one of the best bands in
the world. I love them!”
