It is a humid day in Orlando FL. Day glow colored kids melt like
Skittles on the streets of the House of Blues as they await the My
Chemical Romance show on May 18, 2011. Standing among the sing-
a-longs and the gossip is a girl in a homemade Architects shirt. She
looks like she’s standing in a dream, listening to no one and yet smiling
politely. Her name is Megan.

“This is my third Architects show on this tour. I’m not really a big My
Chem fan. I think they’re pretty good but they’re not really my kinda
music. I’ve probably heard how Gerard is hot
a million times and nine
different ways that [the band’s] wives should die. It’s silly but it’s
worth it. I get to see my favorite band every night. I’d listen to that all
day if I had to.” She states as she toys with the hem of her white shirt.

You can tell that Megan isn’t you’re a-typical social butterfly but that’s
the glory of being a fan. You don’t have to connect with the crowd.
You don’t have to wear the standard show uniform. You can make a
shirt and vibe with the band for an hour or so. You can lose yourself
in the music. Be a part of the story.
If there is anyone who knows how to spin a story that would be Brandon
Phillips, lead singer of Megan’s favorite band The Architects.

NS: I had read in an article that you had stated that there was an emotional
disconnect in the last album.

BP: I don’t know if it was an emotional disconnect but I know that on that
record I was way more focused on every song telling a good story. I didn’t
want to write fifteen songs going “I love you!” The world’s got plenty of
that and I’m no good at it. Stories are nice. I like stories. I kinda got on a hot
streak on that record writing story songs and so I guess in the end it felt like
I wasn’t paying attention to whether or not the stories had any real emotional
impact. I kinda got afraid that I wrote a whole record about stories for the
sake of stories. I was like Ah, shit. That was dumb. With the current record
I tried to make up for that a little bit.

NS: We’re you striving to make this last release more relatable?
