Eyeball Records is a independent record label based in Northern
New Jersey, formed in 1995 by Alex Saavedra. They have released
albums by artists such as Thursday, My Chemical Romance and
Murder by Death. Since these bands have become wildly popular
among modern music fans, the label has earned a reputation for
discovering talent.
Eyeball Records also has an imprint label Astro Magnetics, which
is owned by Eyeball Records manager Marc Debiak, Alex Saavedra
and Thursday's Geoff Rickly. Best known for discovering Thursday
[and later My Chemical Romance], New York label Eyeball Records
has been putting out records since the mid-nineties. They've worked
with such bands as H2O, The Casualties, Gameface, and Midtown,
and currently house one of the indie scene's biggest buzz bands -
Murder By Death. Rise Against side project The Killing Tree also
currently calls Eyeball home.
Eyeball Records is also home to the prominent Eyeball
Alliance, a team full of dedicated fans supporting and promoting the
label through online and guerilla marketing.
On April 17, 2007, Eyeball Records shut down popular music
piracy blog Knixtion (which is a site where people upload CDs' then
uploading them on RapidShare, You Send It, etc.) by sending a
comical letter to its webmaster. The webmaster deleted the blog and
sent an apologetic letter to the label. Eyeball Records also sent a
letter to many peer labels in an effort to fight music piracy.
Current artists include: New London Fire, E for Explosion, The
Killing Tree, Pompeii, and The Number Twelve Looks Like You.
Past, and most notable artists include: Thursday(Victory, now on
Island Records), The Casualties(now on SideOneDummy), Midtown
(disbanded), Pencey Prep (disbanded), My Chemical Romance (now
on Warner Brothers/Reprise), Humble Beginnings (disbanded), and
Zolof the Rock and Roll Destroyer (now Le Pamplemousse).
For all you future rock-stars and head bangers, yes, they accept
demos. However, they ask that you take a few moments to
familiarize yourself with the types of bands they work with. So, all
you future Gerard Way’s, get on your eye-liner and strut your stuff
on stage. Feather boa optional.
Skeleton Crew is but an embryo in the grand scheme of the
music industry, having only been around less than five years.
But even before learning to crawl, this brain child took off
running. Skeleton Crew was founded by Frank Iero
(Leathermouth, My Chemical Romance) and his now wife
Jamia Nestor-Iero for the sole purpose of freeing the minds of
artists and giving them a safe environment to flourish and
grow. Skeleton Crew, or S//C as fans like to abbreviate, is a
publishing company, a record label, and a clothing company
that spans several genres without shame. “We are creating a
different forum where art and ideas can be presented. With
media some of these artists have not experimented with or
explored yet. We will not censor any of the artists, they will
have full reign over what they create.”
It is this ability to embrace the differences in all of us that
has launched Skeleton Crew to the popular heights that the
company now resides at. Despite common media misgivings,
Iero’s fame has little to nothing to do with the success of S//C.
It is the S//C family dedication that sees that the word is
spread, and this word is carried far and wide, having nearly a
street team in more than a dozen countries.
Skeleton Crew (Label) hosts everything from punk rock,
hardcore, and rap, to where as the publishing end births
poetry, fiction, and now comic books. The clothing line,
though small, sells like wild fire and inspires fans to create
their own, much to the satisfaction of owner Frank Iero. ““To
me, it’s less of a company and more of a community. Kid’s can
see someone else wearing Skeleton Crew, and know that they
are down and part of something bigger than just them. I think
the greatest thing that happened for Skeleton Crew was that
kid’s just started to make their own apparel. It’s just like
raising a flag to the masses and saying ‘we are all with you’. It’
s a lifestyle! Making sure that with the time that you’re on this
earth you’re making a mark in a positive way.”
