The Kamikaze Queens are wild and crazy punk rockers straight out of Berlin,
Germany. With a flair for cabaret and rockabilly, Kamikaze is fronted by voluptuous
vocalists, Trinity Tarantula and Mad Kate. They’re backed by Luscious Lloyd on the
big bad bass, Tex Morton with the twang bomb Guitar, and Nico Lipps behind the
demolition drums.
The Kamikaze Queens  were born out of former Berlin band, Sin City Circus
Ladies, a band that Trinity and Lloyd both played together in. They are still a fresh
smelling baby on the Berlin music scene, having celebrating their second year as a
band this past April. However they have already shared the stage with the likes of
Eagles of Death Metal and Queens of the Stone Age.
The Queens may be young but they are quickly making waves with the 2007
release of their 7-inch single “Don’t Look Back”. An infectious song of punk rock
proportions in the vein of The Detroit Cobras and The Dead Kennedy’s, “Don’t
Look Back” is accompanied by the B-side “I Wanna Know You”. The Queens
followed up their single, with this year’s release of Voluptuous Panic: a 12-track
album that is available on CD and LP through the German label, Sounds of
Subterrania. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the Queens will be making their
way to the States anytime soon, due to being on a small indie that is unable to provide
financial support for an international tour. Trinity has been quoted saying “I don’t
know. If someone comes up to us and says, guys, do you wanna play in China?! I’ll
go like, yeah, Hong Kong Garden. Let’s do it. First we take Berlin, then we take
Manhattan!” So who knows? Keep your eyes peeled.
BERLIN, GERMANY
These petite giants fresh out of the little known city of Umea, Sweden slam out some of
the best neo-new-wave punk reminiscent of The Go Go’s, The Bangles, and Joan Jett.
The Bombettes are: vocalist Elin, bassist Chrystal, guitarists Jenka and Ellen, and
drummer Maria. Yes, they are an all girl band. And yes, they rock much harder and faster
than America’s excuse for a girl band, The Donnas. First formed in 2005, these Swedes as
of yet, unsigned. This isn’t a surprise considering a large portion of the music in Sweden
(and the rest of Scandinavia for that matter) is centered around a metal scene.
The five-some had a shaky start in 2008, with guitarist Emma leaving for personal
reasons right after a live concert in Stockholm that was aired on Swedish radio. In
February, the “Ettes” finally found a replacement for Emma in Jenka Nilsson who was
“everything that we had hoped for.” Elin stated. She and the rest of the Bombettes assure
us that Emma is “missed by all of us. But hey, that’s the life.” The beat must go on, and
so will The Bombettes. With catchy, three riff songs like “Oh Boy”, “The Thief”, and
“Dating Scene”, it is conceivable to see The Bombettes as musical ambassadors of
Sweden (like the Hives) in the near future.
