David Costa
                    was born in Hammond,
Indiana on Oct 13th 1980. He
began writing poetry and songs at
the ripe young age of 12. Inpired by
    songwriters such as Tupac Shakur,
Mike Patton, Michael Jackson, and Axl
Rose, Costa takes on a unique
approach to hip hop. Yes, you read all
of that correctly Tupac AND Axl Rose.
Somehow, it makes sense. In David’s
world, it makes perfect sense. In our
world, maybe not so much. But sooner or
later, this will all be David’s world, and we
will all just be living in it.
Fast forward to summer 2006. Armed
with a handful of demo cd's, David hit
the Warped Tour grounds in Chicago,
passing demos to anyone who would
listen. One of these cd's landed in the
hands of My Chemical Romance's own
Frank Iero. Not long after, David found
himself working with Frank's new project,
Skeleton Crew Records, to release the
6-song demo as an EP entitled "A Dream...
And A Plan."
David fits what Frank Iero set forth when he began Skeleton Crew. The Skeleton Crew ideology is to
design and create products that sculpt a new way of living. They are pioneering an infectious
sustainable culture involving music, clothing, art and literature. As individuals who have been
influenced by the movements of creative minds, their goal is to contribute to the spawning of unique independent thinkers who live
everyday like it's their last.
His honesty, aggressiveness and unique rhymes and flow take you on a journey through life, love, lust, and death. David Costa
touches on a number of differentsocial, spiritual, and philosophical topics while telling the story of a tortured spirit trapped within
the soul of an aspiring young artist. Costa is currently in the process of writing his sophomore cd/ep for Skeleton Crew Records,
entitled "The Starving Artist," a concept record chronicling the life (and death?) of a young man in love - a story eerily parallel to
that of David himself. He reveals the missing link between hip-hop and underground hard rock on this six-song debut EP, much like
Gym Class Heroes did ten years ago in upstate New York.
David's stylings are perfect for almost any style show. Big venues and small alike, David has been a part of both hip hop and rock
line-ups. The unique blend of hip hop and rock avoid the bland and overplayed "rap-rock" sound while remaining more intense and
energetic than a typical live hip hop band. The twenty-seven year old Costa has already opened for his label-owner in some select
shows in the Midwest, and had a coveted spot on this year’s Bamboozle stage in New Jersey earlier this month, playing along with
bands such as Panic! At the Disco, Motion City Soundtrack, Anti-Flag, The Bouncing Souls and many, many more. [Christine Gunn]
