March 25th, 2008: The Sun Dome
Dan Jacobs and Marc McKnight of Atreyu are corralled in their dressing
room to talk to Nyght Scene. They don’t seem too broken up about it as they
joke around, inviting a sense of fast-made friends instead of the average
journalist -to-musician attitude.
Atreyu broke out in the Orange County scene back in 1998 and since then
have sold over a million albums. A feat in it’s self considering that most of
your mainstream bands are lucky to break gold-status due to the massive
influx of illegal downloading. Nevertheless, they’ve fought their way up the
ranks to co-headline this year’s Taste of Chaos Tour with fellow O.C natives
Avenged Sevenfold.
For this interview, we sat Marc and Dan down to
get their opinions on the criticisms concerning their
newest album, Lead Sails Paper Anchor and also
talk about how Dan looks so snazzy onstage.
NS: Is this your first Taste of Chaos?
Dan: We were on the second one in 2006.
We’d played a few shows on the first one in
2005. It was such a huge tour: The Used, My
Chemical Romance, Underoath, Killswitch.
All of these amazing bands. It was crazy
Marc: It was a no brainer [to join Taste of
Chaos]. After seeing the line up and all the
venues we were like ‘of course!’
NS: Which is your favorite: Taste of
Chaos or Warped Tour?
Marc: Taste of Chaos. You’re in an actual
building, away from the heat….there are
showers. And plus, when you’re playing
during the day, you’re kinda limited in what
you can do onstage.
NS: I recently read something about
Rokk Clothing. How is that going?
Dan: It’s going well. It’s actually only a
couple of months old. It’s something to work
on in my downtime with the band and it’s
another way of employing my imagination.
Marc: Plus it gives him a full wardrobe, too.
NS: Ever meet people who are wearing
your shirt?
Dan: Yeah actually, people will wear them at
signings and stuff.
Marc: I get just as stoked as Dan does!
