The scene in St. Petersburg, FL is dying and that is something
that no one can deny. In the past year Gasoline Alley has closed
down, The Garage has changed hands, and during the
transaction fans have suffered.  However it is very difficult for
local bands to compete with big names considering that The
State Theatre and Janus Landing have 3-5 shows a week. When
kids are given the option to see Avenged Sevenfold or this new
Hardcore band at The Globe, well needless to say the ladies find
Mr. M. Shadows mighty tasty.
The description of the St. Petersburg scene is something that
Bay native Erin Solari knows very well. “I grew up in the scene
where every night people were playing house shows and
churches, and every week it would be the same show but
hundreds of kids would come out.” she says.
A Sarasota native Solari plays her own brand of Girl pop, that’s
the only way to describe it considering there are just some things
that women can do that men can’t like give child birth, and make
deeply emotional connected songs, men can do it but when we
hear it we’d rather that it came from a woman. Still drawing a
blank think The Dashboard Confessionals all doped up on
Estrogen hormone prescription pills.
Erin Solari played her first show opening up with John Ralston at
The Orpheum in Ybor City. “It was a really big deal for me. For
that first show there was maybe 20 kids here, but it was a huge
deal for me because my very first show ever was seeing The
Dashboard Confessionals here at The Orpheum. They were over
packed they really didn’t enforce the whole maximum capacity
thing, I was front and center the whole time, and there’s Chris
Carrabba. Then here I am a couple years later opening up for
John Ralston on the same stage. It was really surreal.” She
explains.
If you happen to go to a Erin Solari show she may look familiar to
you. It’s because if you live in the bay area you have more than
likely run into her somewhere before, no she isn’t the broad that
serves you your double mocha latte at Starbucks you yuppie
scum. She works as a runner for Janus Productions, so more than
most likely you have seen her working a “merch” booth or taking
tickets somewhere in St. Petersburg, or Tampa and even possibly
the Warp Tour where she finagled her way into playing Acoustic
sets at. “I was out there selling Merch, and right next door they
had this tent set up where bands would play acoustic sets, and
every day there would be 20 minute caps with nothing, and I’m
just sitting here selling Merch, hardly selling it. I’m just sitting
there not doing anything and I’m like well I can take a 15 minute
break, and I asked if they would like me to play in between and
they’re like yeah sure. Then they just asked me if I wanted to
play everyday.” Solari explains.
