Travis McCoy Bludgeons Ignorant
Warped Tour Attendee
As you may or may not have heard, Travis McCoy, lyricist and vocalist of
Gym Class Heroes, was involved in a brawl with a crowd member during
their set in St Louis on the infamous Vans Warped Tour.
The most reliable statements about the incident report that a person in
the crowd, close to the stage called out the vocalist and called him an “ignorant
n*gger”. At that point, McCoy told the fan to get up on the stage with him.
The fan in question made it to security guards along the stage before Travis
struck him in the head, breaking his microphone. Once the fan was removed from
the pit, McCoy turned to his fans and yelled, “I guess sometimes ignorance is bliss!”
The show continued and McCoy apologized to his fans for his actions. “That’s not characteristic of me. I’m sorry you guys had to see
that shit. But when someone calls you something that offensive and that fucking disgusting, you have to bash their head with a
microphone. I’m sorry.” The show continued peacefully and so far, no arrests have been made and Gym Class Heroes were not asked
to leave the tour.
The band’s manager gave a statement on McCoys’ behalf a few days later stating that the vocalist had intended on simply talking out
the issue with the fan in question but when he went to help the fan onstage, the fan struck him in his knee. The knee had been in a
brace due to a recent sprain. At that point, Travis took the microphone to the fan’s head. He also said that Travis wanted to apologize
again to the band’s fans, Kevin Lyman, and the Vans Warped Tour. [L/E/C]
