Warped Tour always has it flaws no showers, it’s long
and it’s hot. “It’s hot but you get use to it.” Chris Rubey
TDWP Guitarist says. “It’s hot but compared to tiny little
club shows it’s nothing.” Jeremy DePoyster Guitarist for
TDWP says. “We played a club show in Louisiana the other
day it was like playing in an oven I’m not kidding. It had to be
over a 100 in there.” Rubey says. “The air was just
completely saturated you walked in and you immediately
started sweating. Even if it wasn’t sweat you go condensation
on you.” DePoyster adds. “I mean the ceiling was raining.” I
guess after raining ceilings Warped Tour can seem like a walk
in the park.
Warped Tour hasn’t necessarily had the best reputation for
Christian bands, let alone one that shares the same name as
popular film starring Anne Hathaway, but by this time a lot of
that has died out which is about time considering it’s 2008
four years since the bands conception and three years since the
said film hit theatres. “If we had to do it over again we would
have definitely picked a different band name.” Rubey says,
“What would we change it to?” DePoyster asks, they both
shrug.
So how does a Christian band on Warped Tour keep their
bolts tight? Who can forget what happened to Underoath on
Warped Tour in 2006, when Screamer Spencer Chamberlain
knocked back a few “brewskis” with Fat Mike and NOFX.
The drunken night which eventfully led to Underoath leaving
the remainder of the tour. So how does TDWP refrain from
temptations that surround Warped Tour? Well having friends
on tour helps like their buddies A Day To Remember. “We
love those guys. We’ve done like three or four tours with
those guys. I would definitely say they are our brother band."
Rubey says. Friends is one way to stay sane on the Warped
Tour but a Bible study can help too. “Last night at 9:30 or 10:
00 As I Lay Dying hosted a Bible study. It’s cool because on
this tour there are a lot of people who share the same beliefs as
we do. Even if it’s not everybody we still have a tight group of
people that we can rely on. So if you ever need anything or have
any problems you can always go talk to someone.”
With a new album on it’s way in early 2009 and a new label,
with TDWP signing to Ferret Records the whole Christian band
label has died out for TDWP for the most part, which is fine
with the boys of TDWP. “I don’t even think a lot of people
realize that we’re a Christian band.” Rubey says. “It helps us in
some ways there are some people who listen to only Christian
bands, and there are people who will never listen to Christian
bands. And when they hear that we are a Christian band they
push away from us.” He says. “I wish it didn’t matter as far as
popularity. I hate it when people say that we use it in our
advantage. Which is offensive because we never just push our
beliefs on anyone.” DePoyster adds.
Look for the re-release of Plagues with a DVD sometime by the
end of the year which will be released through TDWP’s
pervious label Rise Records, and keep your eyes peeled for a
new TDWP record through Ferret Records in early 2009, but
don’t look for guest vocals provided by Cole Wallace now
former vocalist of Gwen Stacy. “That’s a touch subject since he’
s not with Gwen Stacy anymore.” Rubey says, “But I’m sure
there will be someone doing guest vocals on the new record.” He
adds ambiguously.
