Do you remember when you were a kid being at some birthday
party. It was usually for your aunt’s third cousin’s. A kid who has
since been twice removed. Now when you think about it you can’t
even remember the kid’s name or if they were ever even really
related to you. Come to think of it I think it was just some neighbor
kid that my mother felt bad for so she made me go. Anyway at the
said birthday party the parents always thought it was a great idea
to have a scavenger hunt. The whole purpose of the scavenger Hunt
was so the adults could get rid of all the rug rats for a good 30
minutes. After all it’s so safe to go rummaging through your back
yard looking under rocks looking for a pinecone. Come to think of
it I was the only one looking for shit. Wait where was I? Oh yeah
the scavenger hunt. Pop/ Punk veterans Relient K have started a
scavenger hunt through their website for their fans. One with not as
many psychological issues as the ones I remember.
The scavenger hunt’s list is a bit more interesting considering that
you are looking for free downloadable songs that didn’t make it on
their new EP
The Bird and The Bee Sides. “We had some songs left
over that didn’t make the
Bee sides record. We thought it would be
cool for people to be able to find those tunes.” John Warne Relient
K’s bassist explains. “ It’s just something that we thought that we
would of liked if we were fans.” Jon Schneck Relient K’s guitarist
adds. “It’s something fun to hold people over until our full length
comes out.” Warne adds. “The reception has been pretty positive
[to Bee Sides] people know to take it for what it is. It’s not our
new album. It’s just an assortment of a bunch of stuff that we have
been working on, and some old stuff.” Schneck says.
Sometime next year fans can expect a new full length from RK. An
album which has yet to be titled or a producer mention. If you are
in dyer need of your RK fix this summer make sure you catch them
on the remainder of The Vans Warped Tour main stage. This year
marks the first time that RK has headlined Warped Tour in their 10
year career. A feat that is unheard of by a band of RK’s life line and
even more unheard of from a band that exist in the Pop/
Punk genre. “I don’t even know what headlining is on this tour.”
Warne comments with a smirk. Which is understandable considering
that a lot of bands play the main stage. RK played the main stage
last time they played Warped Tour, but weren’t marketed as being
a headliner unlike this year. If you happen to make a stop at RK’s
Merch booth you’ll notice a new addition to their booth in the form
of The Blood Water Mission. “They are an organization that
provides wells and bathrooms for people in Africa. You can donate
a dollar and the dollar will provide someone in Africa with clean
water for a whole year.” Schneck explains. All summer long RK will
have an associate with the organization, who will be taking
donations, providing literature on the cause and selling T-shirts as
well. So why this particular organization? “We have actually known
about Blood Water for a while and have only heard good things
about them so we decided to get involved.” Warne adds.
Whether RK is Headlining or not make sure you catch RK on
Warped Tour. Make a stop by the Merch table as well and check
out what Blood Water is all about, and keep your eyes peeled for a
new album from the veteran Pop/ Punksters in early 2009 for the
new album through Gotee Records.
