The rest of the music world appears to have finally
forgotten about Sonny Moore, which is finally a sigh of
relief for his the rest of his former band From First To Last.
“It’s been two years almost. It’s like everyone should
know by now.” Matt Manning From First To Last Guitarist
says. “I think for the most part people are coming up to us
saying, ’wow I like you better.” He adds. “Everything is
good though with us [FFTL and Sonny Moore] everyone
tries to make it look like we hate each other and that we get
into fist fights everywhere we go and it’s not like that at
all. It was just one of those things that was better for both
of us. He went and did his thing and we did ours.” He
continues. There thing being a new vocalist and a new
label.
In the past two years From First To Last has been a lot a
vocalist change bring Matt Good the bands creator back
up to the front, who originally sang for the band. “It’s a
blessing. It’s just more consistent. We haven’t had to drop
off a tour. We haven’t had to cancel shows due to vocal
problems.” Manning says on Good being back up front. “It
definitely took a fair amount of work to get geared up
enough to come out and say ’now we’re this way’.
Considering that we just lost the guy [Sonny Moore] who
sang everything. We had to figure out how to make it work
and we did.
On top of a vocalist change FFTL has also changed labels.
After leaving Epitaph in early 2006 FFTL had signed
Capitol records prior to the merge of Capitol and Virgin a
merge that left a lot of bands on the outs. “It was like hey
guys we’ll leave. I mean you’re dropping bands
we’ll just leave if that’s cool.” Manning says with a
laugh about FFTL‘s departure from Capitol Records.
Within a day of leaving Capitol FFTL was signed with
Suretone a stamp of Interscope Records who released
their self titled record this past May.
FFTL’s self titled record is a departure from what fans
have come to expect from the band which latent hooks
and catchy riffs, which begs the question was that
intentionally or is that just how it came out? “I think it
just came out that way.” Manning explains. “He wanted
to put out a record that wasn’t so into a scene, a click or
a genre. We just wanted to write record that anyone and
everyone could listen to.” He adds. Anyone and
everyone is listening to it from fans lining up around
their merch booth at Warped Tour waiting for
autographs. To Critics from All Music Guide,
Absolutepunk.net and Alternative Press giving the self
titled record rave reviews. From First to Last isn’t last
any longer.
