Call me crazy but there’s something about the
Birmingham, English accent that just makes a guy
sound like an utter badass. I mean Liberace could have
had a Birmingham accent and no one would have
believed he was gay no matter how much he was
flaming. Davey Warsop of British pop punk band Beat
Union is no different in the fact that he appears to be a
complete badass, and no he doesn’t resemble Liberace
in any way what so ever. After about 30 minutes in
that heat that glitter would stuck everywhere wouldn’t
it?
Beat Union is an anomaly among British bands
considering they achieved success across the pond in
the united states prior to success in England and
Europe. In early 2008 Beat Union signed to American
label Science Records who released their debut album
Disconnected this past April. “I’m not sure how they
[Science Records] exactly got word of us. John
Feldman has heard us and thought we would do really
well in America, and we did. It kicked off in America
for us before the UK.” He explains. Many bands may
find it frustrating to land success in another country
before they’re own however that is not the case with
Warsop. “It’s quite the opposite. It’s pretty flattering
actually. It gave us an opportunity to get into another
country and tour. We weren’t particularly happy with
our lives back home. We were working jobs that we
weren’t happy with and we didn’t get anything from
place.” That place this summer is Warped Tour.
them, we were working for minimum wage and we
didn’t see much of a future for us there. When we
got signed it was a chance to escape.” He says.
Warsop and company have been able to escape the
mundane touring schedule of a club tour with them
landing on the Vans Warped Tour this year. Allowing
them to play to thousands of more kids rather than
cramming in 300 kids inside a club that resembles a
public restroom. Although BU will only be playing 30
minute sets like the rest of the Warped Tour line up
Warsop still feels that most people will be surprised
even if you are familiar with the sound of BU. “I
think they will be surprised our live show is a bit
more energetic and raw than the record. A record is
about polishing your songs and about letting the fans
hear the songs. But the live show is about involving
everyone and getting that energy all together in one ”
