There is always something unsettling about a band
that can play hardest of hardcore with the best of
them and have their audience scream every word,
and at the same time that same exact band can play
a cover of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since You Been Gone”
and have that same crowd scream every line to that
song. It’s eerie and freighting all that the same time
and yet Ocala, Florida band A Day To Remember is
the band that are able to pull off this frightening
occurrence, and they do it at every show. “We just
really love that song.” vocalist Jeremy McKinnon
admits with a straight face, well he’s a bigger man
than most.
Maybe it’s that song that is the reason why they
have landed themselves on Warped Tour for the
first time; because maybe, just maybe the founder
of Warped Tour Kevin Lyman has a guilty pleasure
for Kelly Clarkson. Or it could be because since A
Day To Remember’s initial conception in 2003 they
have been on a steady rise to the top landing a deal
with Victory Records in 2005. As well as landing
themselves spots on tours with bands like
Silverstein, Protest The Hero and The Devil Wears
Prada as well as landing a spot at this past years
Bamboozled Festival along with Europe’s Download
festival. After all of that The Vans Warped Tour
almost seems like a cancellation prize, but don’t they
them that . “This first warped tour has been the
most fun experience we’ve had so far.” McKinnon
says. “The crowds have been much better than we
expected.” he adds. Yet who can blame the crowds
for showing their love for Kelly Clarkson, it’s a virus
that becomes so infectious you can’t help but sing
along even if you hate that rotten song.
So what’s next for a band that has done everything
they can possible do this year, did someone say a
new album? That’s right A Day to Remember will be
writing a new record. They will be hitting the studio
starting in November with production done by Chris
Rubey of The Devil Wears Prada and Chad Gilbert of
New Found Glory whom A Day To Remember will
be touring with this fall. Fans can look to see it in
February through Victory Records and will entitled
Homesick a proper title for a band that is never home.
