Nyght Scene- Do you prefer to play festival
shows like this or a regular tour with just a
couple of bands?
Ronnie- “I’m not picky, I don’t care. They each
have their advantages but I like that there are a lot of
bands.”
Jon- “I think it’s the same either way. I think we’re
just all about playing. You know? As long as we’re
getting our music out there. As long as we’re
playing.”
Ronnie- “Yeah it’s weird not to play for a week or
something.”
Nyght Scene- How is the schedule working out
for you then?
Ronnie- “We’re in the middle of a twelve day run
right now and I think we‘ll get one day off. There’s
never a week off out here, that’s for sure… If you
get one you’re lucky.”
Jon- “Last year we had double duty, we’d
play and then drive. He [points to Ronnie]
did most of the driving.”
Ronnie- “Yeah, we were in a van half the
year and then an RV the second half.”
Nyght Scene- How different were your
experiences recording your EP and
Don’t You Fake It?
Jon-“The full length was the first thing we’
d ever done on a professional professional
level. What can I say? It was everything
times ten. Bigger budget, more instruments,
more time to prepare. We did a lot of
writing in the studio. It was just a huge,
huge difference. The other one was
something we put together as soon as
possible, like most bands because then you
have no budget whatsoever. And I think the
record is way better…and I’m pretty sure
I’m right because we’ve sold a crap-load of
records. We also learned a lot about each
other. Being locked in an apartment so to
speak with each other.”
Ronnie- “Yeah it was the first time we’d
spent that long straight together Because we
hadn’t been on a tour that long by that point
yet because it’s hard to book yourself for
that long. Any real band in it’s beginning
stages knows that. We were stuck together
in the same place for that long, working
everyday together on nothing but music.”
Nyght Scene- Do you have any idea how
you’ll approach making your next
record? Seeing how well this one has
been received.
Ronnie- “We have no ideas and no expectations. We
don’t even know when we’re going to record it, ya
know? We’re just going to take our time. But then
again there are still people all over the world who
haven’t heard this record and people who are still
discovering the band. So we’re gonna do both, we’re
gonna work on new stuff as much as we can and we’
re gonna tour the world and play in places that we’ve
never played before…We’re gonna hit Europe,
Austrailia, we’re gonna hit Japan again. We’ve already
been there, it’s amazing. Those were probably the
two best shows of our career.”
Nyght Scene- What would you consider this
band’s strength and weaknesses?
Ronnie- “I don’t know really. I guess our strengths
are probably that we don’t give a crap about anything
but playing music. And that’s always good.”
Jon- “Our weakness is probably Whiskey”
Ronnie- “Yeah, for you!”
Jon- “Okay, for me personally.”
Ronnie- “No we’re just here to have a good time.
We’re here to make music and to share our music.
We’re not into politics and awe don’t have drama. We
just love what we do.”
Nyght Scene- What are your plans for after
Warped?
Ronnie- “Good question actually, through extensive
online fan research. Basically, we asked everyone
what they wanted the third single to be and they said
that they wanted Your Guardian Angel, so that will be
our third single and we’ll shoot the video the day after
warped tour and it’ll be amazing and hopefully people
will like it. And if they do, all the fans have to do is
call in and they’ll play it, it’s that simple.” [LC]
