rub my eyes in sheer disbelief.” And
who wouldn’t? In a world where
Myspace and Purevolume make up the
forefronts of how new music is heard-
and unfortunately, acquired- many a
band can be lost in the shuffle. Many an
artist take different sides on the
relevance and importance of such sites,
as easy as it can be to find an amazing
band on either sight, it’s just as easy to
find a “band” with half assed music and
scene kid pictures to hold up the
pretense that their band is serious.
“Yeah, I was [a supporter]…Now it’s
just kind of… It was common for bands
to sell a few million records, it wasn’t
just going platinum, it was multi-
platinum. But now, it’s strictly “you’re
lucky if your sell a million records”. I
mean record sales have gone from like
700 million a year down to 300 million a
year in a matter of 7 years. Isn’t that
scary? Considering you try to make this
a career? But the record labels haven’t
changed the way of giving you money.
So they still gauge it by the old
standards, but the old standards can’t
hold up to the internet and
blahblahblahblahblah.. It’s alright, I’m
stoked I got in on it. I think it’s a
great opportunity.”
It’s hard to ignore what illegal
downloading and the impact the internet
has had on the music industry, label mates,
Panic At The Disco managed to pull off
selling 2 million copies of their album, A
Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, amazing in
itself. Cute’s album The Same Old Blood
Rush With a New Touch managed to beat
out Panic’s first week sales, a bragging
right in any sense…right?
“It was pretty insane, but at the end of the
day we sold 200,000 and they sold 2
million, so we we’re like “alright, never
mind. We’ve had our day…literally.” You
know what though, the day before I found
that out, The producer who did our record
and theirs called  me and informed that
they just went platinum. So it was like “Ya-
awww.” Shaant recalls with another smirk
and a shake of his head.
Cute Is What We Aim For is moving
ahead at full speed, their newest video
Curse of Curves is, though not so loved by
the band members themselves for editing
reasons can be found in heavy rotation and
plans are in the works for a collaboration
with Anthony Green on their new album.
After Warped Tour, catch the guys on a
