owning the world. What goals do
Chiodos aspire to?

Derrick:
I think any musician’s ultimate
goal is to be successful in any way they
can be. When I started music all I wanted
to be was a drummer, to travel the world
and play music for people, anyone
that would listen. That in itself is
good enough for me. Of
course you always set goals
for yourself like now, we always wanted
to take it to the next level and be the
best we could be. People are really
accepting of us and that’s what we
always wanted. I think that’s what
everyone wants. You’re always striving
to do the best that you can do.

Nyght Scene: It’s more than obvious
that the fans are accepting of you.
Chiodos has had one of the largest
turn outs that I could see today. Do
you find that the people back home
are as accepting now that you’ve
reached the heights that you have
currently?

Derrick:
For the most part everyone is
cool. But when you have friends that are
musicians it’s hard because they want all
this help and have all these questions on
getting started and you can’t answer
them because you don’t even know how
you got started. I think that’s the
      hardest part. It’s basically how
all your best friends are now
           your worst critics. People
get jealous; they take it in a
way that isn’t put on them at
all. A lot of people back
           home they’re like ‘You’re a
             Rock star now. You’re
               too cool to hang out.’
It’s not that I’m too cool to hang out; it’s
that I’m never home. When can I hang out
with you? My closet friends I’m still close
to, but the people that I meet here and
there… it’s awkward. I guess being a
musician is a good way to filter through
people. You really get to see who’s there
for you and who’s there for the glory of
being next to you. But also being in a band
brings out all the people you never want to
meet either. It’s a fifty-fifty split. I’d say
that since I was in the band I’ve made less
friends. But that’s okay. I don’t need many
friends anyway. It doesn’t really matter to
me. [HmH]
