| Reunions Galore! Everyone, it doesn’t matter how old you are, looks forward to a high school reunion. You know the deal: open bar, old flames, and you even get to see how Suzy the Homecoming Queen has turned into the Trailer Park Queen. Not to mention Johnny Football Hero is now pumping your gas. You can call it pettiness or nostalgia, but rock stars are no different than you and I. Hence, why 2007 has been dubbed the Reunion year with Led Zeppelin, The Sex Pistols, The Blur and The Misfits all announcing reunion tours. Led Zeppelin reuniting for one night, well the three surviving members: Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones. Jason Bonham, - whose father was the original drummer, the late John Bonham who passed in 1981 - will fill in on the drums. The highly anticipated Zeppelin show will take place on November 26th at the 22,000 capacity O2 Arena in London, England. The “wankers” from London are not to be out done, The Sex Pistols have decided to get together for one night playing a show on November 8th at the Brixton Academy where former bassist the late Sid Vicious is sure to be missed. This will be the first hometown show for the Englishmen since 2002. “If Robert Plant can do it, then so can I!” Says vocalist, Johnny Rotten. Like I said, it’s either pettiness or Nostalgia who knows? But punk needs no explanation. Although 90’s britpopsters, The Blur haven’t been known for not having the best band relations, during the recording of The Blur’s last album 2003’s Think Tank, guitarist Graham Coxon quit in the middle of the album’s recording and left the band on an open-ended Hiatus. The Blur has recently announced that they will be reuniting to record a new album. A release date has yet to be announced. Technically it’s not a reunion tour, but The Misfits have announced an anniversary tour in celebration of their 30 years as a band. The tour will include 11 shows: 10 in the US and 1 in Canada. The tour will unfortunately not include original vocalist and founding member, Glen Danzig. Although, there has been speculation that the brick shit house Danzig will make an appearance here and there for the sake of authenticity. [ Justin Lee Amidon - Justin@Nyghtscene.com] |

| Song for the Underdog Song for the Underdog Equal Vision recording artists, Chiodos, have rightfully taken their place in music industry’s bible, entering Billboard Magazine's Top 200 Chart at a ground breaking Number Five spot! Only 3 spots behind pop princess Fergie, who holds the number 2 spot at the moment. Yes I said Chiodos. The same band that you could find outside of Taste of Chaos earlier this year singing camp fire songs with their fans, such as the infamous Down by the Bay. Chiodos’ second full length album Bone Palace Ballet, which was released on September 4, 2007 as the follow up to 2005’s All’s Well That End’s Well, has sold nearly 40,000 albums in their first week. This is Chiodos' highest chart position in their career, and the highest in Equal Vision Records' 15-year history. Bone Palace Ballet is the only debut album in Billboard's Top 40 this week. "Thank you for making Bone Palace Ballet the #5 selling record in the country this week on the Billboard charts," said vocalist Craig Owens. "We have the best fans in the world!" Bone Palace Ballet has been getting rave reviews from both critics and fans, which helped the Davidson, Michigan natives land on the cover of this month’s Alternative Press. AP calls the album “a frighteningly mighty album of exhilarating musicianship and inspired lyrical introspection?" New York Times calls the album "bombastic" and vocalist Craig Owens "a potential rock star." Owens and company have just come off the Vans Warped Tour to gear up for a headlining tour, where Nyght Scene got a chance to catch up with drummer Derrick Frost. You can check out that interview here. It will be a bit difficult to stereotype Chiodos as just another Hardcore band now, considering that most “hardcore” bands don’t sell 40,000 copies nor do they go out on a limb and create a “very theatric” album like Bone Place Ballet as one Chiodos fan has put it. Bone Place Ballet was produced by Casey Bates (Fear Before the March of Flames, Gatsbys American Dream) and was mixed by David Bendeth (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Paramore), “This album takes off with the raw unrestrained power that marked their first album All’s Well That Ends Well and harnesses it into a powerful behemoth of controlled and carefully orchestrated beauty,” according to Reybee Productions. From the classically-manic piano/prog- rock styling of the opening track “Is It Progression If A Cannibal Uses A Fork?”, to the aggressive stutter- rock of “Bulls Make Money, Bears Make Money, Pigs Get Slaughtered”, to Craig Owens’ drastic vocal jumps in “If I Cut My Hair, Hawaii Will Sink”. Bone Palace Ballet loses none of their earlier work’s diversity while retaining the very thread that makes Chiodos a force to be reckoned with. 40,000 copies is a staggering number, especially when you look at what groundbreaking bands sold their opening weeks before they broke big. Considering that My Chemical Romance’s sophomore effort Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge only sold a mere 12,000 copies it’s opening week. One would be challenged to ask themselves is this the next big thing? [ Justin Lee Amidon - Justin@Nyghtscene.com] |
