Jeff Davis wants to set the record straight. He doesn't
want to talk shit about anyone or get into anymore trouble.
Although he may feel from time to time that a band has
possibly ripped off his band, Boys Night Out, or if he feels
that they are just a shitty band making shitty music. The
Burlington, Ontario native doesn't want to list any names
however. "I'm not saying that My Chemical Romance
ripped us off. It was just a weird coincidence is all." The
sandy haired bassist comments as he lounges back into the
Boys Night Out tour van seat. The coincidence that
Davis is referring to is in the similarities between
Boys Night Out 2005 release, Trainwreck,
and My Chemical Romance’s 2006 release,
The Black Parade. Trainwreck was a
concept record (one that actually
stays a concept record all the way
through, mind you) that centered
around a patient who deals with
death and everything that
comes with it. Hmmm, that
sounds a bit familiar doesn't
it? But after all it's just a
"weird coincidence" as
Davis says, considering
that My Chemical
Romance had toured
with Boys Night Out
during 2005. Be sure to
know that Davis isn't talking shit
through; he wants to make that
very, very, very clear (he added
the third very).
Not wanting to burn any
bridges is completely
understandable, considering that
they aren't even halfway across the
bridge. The band is currently on the
Ferret Music label, whose roster
consists mainly of Metal acts like Kill
Switch Engage, and Maylene and the
Sons of Disaster. "We're definitely the
odd man out." Davis says about being
on the Ferret Label. Boys blended into
the canvas before with louder records
like their 2003 debut Make Yourself
Sick, and 2005's musical moodiness,
Trainwreck. "Its home for us," Davis
says of Ferret. It's hard for Boys not to
stand out considering their pop rock
sound, with their vocal harmonies, on
their third coming self-titled record.
"It's a straight forward rock record."
Davis says of the self-titled effort. It
doesn't hurt to have Lou Giordano in
your corner whose list of
co-workers includes Goo Goo
Dolls, Sunny Day Real Estate,
Ataris and Taking Back Sunday.
Upon hearing Boys Night
Out’s demos, Giordano flew
up to their rehearsal space to
work with them in Burlington.
“Going into it, it was a little
intimidating. Just considering
who he's worked with." Davis
says.
There are a few things that
are missing from this record
however, like murder, but
there's still plenty of violence.
"There aren't any songs about
killing girls, which was a must
needed change for us.." Davis
adds with a laugh. "It's
definitely a personal record for
