Growing up in Brandon , FL , doesn’t give you much means to
do anything. The closest venues are in Ybor, which more likely than
not host 21+ shows, or large arenas and amphitheatres. We have no
real close way to get to a show. So, what does a boy do when he is
tired and want to get out of this place?
  He starts a band.
Matt Good, lead singer of From First to Last started the band in
early 2003, with guitarist Travis Richter, when both of them were in
Orlando . After locking down what they thought was a solid band
with Derek Bloom on drums, they recorded the Asethic EP, with
Good taking lead vocal duties, which he has since taken over again
due to the departure of Sonny Moore.
“I enjoy them both.” Good says when questioned if he felt more at
home singing lead vocals once again. “I don’t know. It’s just two
different things. I hadn’t done it in a few years. But for the past six
months I have been, and it’s been fun.”
And this is the most secure Good has felt with the line up since
the start of the band. “It’s just the four of us [including new bassist
Matt Manning]. You have to keep weeding out until you find what
you need as a person and as a band. We waited a long time to fill
Jon’s [Weisberg] spot. We had so many people come in as a
bassist, until we found that right person. I’m not saying anything
bad about the people we did have, it’s just, we needed to find the
perfect person, ya know?”
When they say they tried a lot of people, they really did. Including,
gasp, a female. Alicia Simmons, more commonly known as Mikey
Way ’s ( My Chemical Romance bassist) now wife. “She was great.
It didn’t matter if she was a girl. She has an amazing work ethic,
and is very talented. She definitely kept us in check. She was
great.”
In the past, the band has been on countless Warped Tours and
numerous tours, one of the largest being The Black Clouds and
Underdogs Tour in spring 2006 with Fall Out Boy, The All
American Rejects, and  Hawthorne Heights. “I liked it. Fall Out Boy
was a bazillion times bigger than us and wanted to take us out?
Who would turn that down? None of the bands sounded the same,
which was great. I don’t want to go to a show where it is a
constant sound. From one band to the next, you need diversity.”
And you can’t get any more diverse than MTV. Where “music
television” is swamped with shitty reality and dating shows, and
pop music to make your ears bleed. Why would a rock band want
their videos played with such…trash?
“It really doesn’t matter to me.” Matt says. “If people want to
hear our music, who are we to stop them? If we saw our video on
MTV, I really wouldn’t care. That’s one more person who might go
and buy our record.”
But please, do not take this band seriously. We can all gather
that assumption if you have
