Vains had only been in the states for a mere 3
months. “When we met him at the show, we
were really drunk.” Stone says with a smirk. A
mere two weeks later Margera caught up with
the boys, which led to the signing of the band.
“We were like, ‘Fuck Yeah!’” Ken says of
signing with Filthy Note Records, Margera’s
label. “It’s not like we had anything else going
on.” Stone adds. There wasn’t much else
needed to be done considering that Vains had
already had the Album Lit Up Let Down,
recorded three months prior while they were
still in Sweden. “After seeing them live I knew
I had to start up a label so they could put out
a record.” Margera has said, who signed the
band for a 1 record deal.
Margera has a reputation for having a soft
spot for Scandinavian bands; it doesn’t hurt
Vains’ cause by any means by having the
approval by someone like Bam Margera. It
even helped them land tours like the Viva La
Bands tour “It’s really different from any of
the other tours that we have done, with four
different bands [Cradle of Filth, Gwar & CKY]
that sound nothing alike. It’s great for a band
like us because we are nothing like any of the
bands on this tour.” Ken says, “You never
know how people are going to react to you
when you’re opening up for those kind of
bands.” Stone adds. So far so good,
Ken and company haven’t been struck
by any bottles or any other kind of crowd
weaponry for that matter. However, if
White Lion had it their way there would
most like something thrown, after being
booted off this summer’s Poison and
Ratt co-headlining tour when Vains took
their place. “They were a little pissed
off,” Ken explains “I don’t really care.
They’re not the greatest band.” he
explains. “Yeah we didn’t even take their
spot, they just fucked up.” Stone chirps
in. “It’s more fun for the audience, to see
a new band. Who wants to a see an old
band as an opening band?” Ken asks.
One place you won’t be seeing Vains of
Jenna anytime soon is Canada… or rest
of the world for that matter considering
they can’t leave the US due to their Visa
Situation. That is, the visa which enables
them to leave the US for at least the next
year. “We’ll go to Europe later.” Ken
says, “But right now the States are the
main thing.” He adds. So until then
Canada and the rest of the world will
have to wait. Vains’ record is only
currently available in the US, hopefully
there next record will be more accessible
to the world. Vains have already started
writing for it. It is unclear if the new
record will be released on Filthy Note or
not however since their contract is
officially up. “We’ll see what happens
with all of that.” Ken says. Ken and
company won’t let on too much about
the new record. “We’re going to take our
time with this one.” Stone explains the
opposite of Lit Up Let Down where most
of the songs were written in mere
minutes. “The songs on this one are a lot
better.” Ken adds. “It’s still going to be
rock and roll, because rock and roll can
be whatever the fuck you want it to be.
We’re going to write the songs we want
to write, we’re not going to think about,
we’re just going to fucking do it.”
