What do you do when the music scene in your hometown sucks? Well if
you’re Swedish Rock & Roll band Vains of Jenna, you ship off to the rock & roll capital of the world,
Hollywood, California. I say rock & roll because that’s what it is, at times reminiscent of Guns N Roses, but the boys from Vains of Jenna can pull off a Tom Petty cover too, like when they covered the Petty tune Refugee. While many may assume that they would rather do a Guns N Roses or Motley Crue cover, in actuality they’d rather refrain from that. “We could do a Guns N Roses cover, but why? It’s just going to sound like Guns N Roses.” Nikki Ken asks Vains lead guitarist. Vains of Jenna are originally from Falkenberg, Sweden. With a population of approximately 20,000 people it’s no wonder they left, “It’s the smallest, shittiest town ever.” Ken proclaims. Ken (Lead Guitar), JP White (Bass), Lizzy Devine (Guitar & Vocals) and Jacki Stone (Drums), are easy to spot in down town St. Petersburg considering their attire. They look like relics from the Sunset Strip district in Hollywood. California circa 1987 with their teased bleached blonde hair, tight jeans and vintage band T-Shirts with the sleeves ripped off, it’s no wonder they chose Hollywood as their destination. “I just think it’s good for a band to live in LA, and our manager lives there too.” Ken says. Most people would be a bit weary of dropping everything to move half way across the globe to a country that they’ve never been to, but not Vains of Jenna.
