“I love what Jack has done with our videos. He is a visionary,
an artist. A lot of music videos become one in the same and get
really boring. What Jack does, he captures that moment. That
emotional and real moment. That’s what makes a video
unforgettable.”
Our conversation drifted onto MTV and what it has done to the
music industry and bands that have stayed so close to the
fans. “MTV exposes you to a lot of people. When we started
this band, we wanted to take it as far as we could go, whether
that be playing small shows at VFW halls or being at MTV,
playing arenas. Regardless of MTV, I don’t think of our band
as a ‘sell-out.’ Seeing our video on TRL has not made us any
different. We are going to be the best band we can be. Whether
MTV is on our team or not, so be it. They aren’t going to the
end all, be all of our band.”
“Our fans our voting for us on shows like TRL, and seeing our
video climb higher and higher on their countdown, its great.  I
didn’t even know MTV still played videos. I think it’s important
for bands like us to be on MTV and to bring genuine rock
music back to the masses. I’m definitely sick of MTV playing
shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills and then
playing a block of Fergie videos. I would much rather see bands like
us, and Gym Class Heroes, My Chemical Romance…and all bands of
the sort that deserve much more than they have. There are so many
bands being over looked by MTV because of a ‘label’.”
With a band that seems so devoted to their fans, I decided to go to
them for a lot of my questions. I scoured the Internet for groups of
people. I landed on the bands Live Journal community, asking for help.
The question I received the most was “What does Seed mean to you?”
Seed is a song off the band’s new album, which has caused a lot of
fans to scratch their heads in search for a meaning. When asked, the
band would usually reply with a ‘make your own meaning’. But Mr.
Siska was not getting out of it that easily. I tossed the question his
way and he stared at me, trying to find an answer, probably wondering
how honest he could be with this ‘reporter.’
“Seed….That’s a good question.” He hesitated before answering
again. “I think this song is about the hardship of balancing
relationships with the lifestyle that we have which is quite grueling. It’
s about the things we leave behind every time we go out on the road.
We chose this lifestyle and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the
world. There is definitely a lot of things that have been sacrificed.”
Adam stops his explanation there.
“Not to say too much about the song. The song has its own meaning
to everyone. I think to tell you what it means, takes away from the
song. When you listen to lyrics, you put yourself there. Everyone
deserves to have their own opinion or story behind those lyrics. They
mean something different to each person who listens to it”
By this time, you have probably tried to put this article into a spell
check, wondering why every time I have written the band’s name, I
have used ‘…’ As my last question, I asked Adam to fill in the blank.

“The Academy is…what? Fill in the blank.” I asked.

“The Academy is… my life. Since I was 15, for the last five years, this
has been my life. You leave everything else behind to follow your
dream. I wouldn’t change any of this for the world."
