Cobra Starship Viva La Cobra Every few months, a new album comes out that will not leave my stereo, ipod, and car. This is that album. The sophomore release from Cobra Starship far exceeds their debut “While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets.” The beats are better put together, and singer Gabe Saporta’s voice has improved, making the album run smoother. Viva la Cobra is filled with charisma and cheesy one- liners that can easily be used as your next away message. Its snarky, and in your face, and the band is shoving it into the face of every critic who thought they were a ‘novelty band’ with their first single ever being the main song for the box-office joke Snakes on A Plane. This album proves that Cobra Starship is here for the long haul. Well played, Cobras. You can catch them the beginning of the year headlining their own tour. Hurry, tickets are selling like hotcakes.
Living Hell The Lost and The Damned This album is being reviewed late. This would have been an outstanding album to have to play at your annual Halloween bash. Or even better, to pump through your outdoor surround sound to scare away potential trick-or-treaters. Unless you’re into handing out candy, then please, hide this album. Living Hell’s The Lost and The Damned is in-your face metal. It’s the blood-thirsty carnage that we all crave when listening to a real hardcore metal album. This album comes highly recommended for a true metal fan, who wants to dive into a mosh pit and shank some bitches.
Sick City Nightlife Trustkill bands never let me down. I know even before I put this CD in my laptop that I am going to be impressed. If it is stamped with the Trustkill label, I know my ears are going to be happy. This album further proves my point. Not so much hardcore as the other bands on Trustkill, Sick City has no reservation about plunging themselves headfirst into emo’s lifestyle, from the “suggestive” cover art on. There is a hint of gothic like influence from The Cure on some songs. The singer has an amazing voice that weasels its way into your eardrums and makes you momentarily head- bang. The bands can easily find its way onto mainstream radio, to get played with the likes of Jimmy Eat World and Foo Fighters. This could easily be my favorite album that I’ve heard in a while.
