Which it necessarily isn’t and you know I’ve always
liked those kind of like sloppy bohemian bastards
more than when you’re really over done. It’s nothing
too conscious I guess. I don’t know, I’m just
copying Johnny Depp. That’s what I’m trying to do.
I’m trying to loose my eyesight so I can get the
glasses as well.”
Venus Doom, much to some fans’ surprise and less
to others, is a beautiful mix of melancholy, love, and
doom metal-esque music. Considering that no two
HIM albums are too much alike, it shouldn’t be too
surprising to hear of the arrival of such a heavier
album after 2005’s Dark Light.
“Well first of all, as individuals, we’re very different
guys.” Mige states. “There are people in his band
who like Michael Jackson, who like Slayer, who like
Black Sabbath, who like fucking… Placebo. And then
of course, you’re pushing your own influence and
your own perversions. Of course you have to every
time. You have to [change], no body wants to do the
same thing over and over so you have to come up
with a new approach. We still play together and we
don’t have any songwriters outside of the band so we
can never really change too much.” Mige points out
about the process behind making a new record.
Venus Doom it’s self is substantially heavier sounding
and much more “gloom and doom” as Ville terms it.
The album itself is a masterpiece fit for any CD
collection. Only nine songs in length, the album is
short, bittersweet, and to the point. Oh and the live
show is a beautiful thing, and don’t think about
skipping out before the ‘No Name Band’. They’re a
really interesting group. [x]
